Why Young Achievers?

Our classes are FLEXIBLE! Book clubs and Learning Adventures can be scheduled around YOUR CHILD'S schedule.

  • Learning adventures will spark creativity, curiosity, and collaboration with other students around high interest topics. Units are specifically designed to guide and inspire self-directed learning.

  • Our book clubs will keep your reader engaged in high quality text. Studies have noted that students’ reading enjoyment and reading skills increase after participating in a book club.

Book Clubs

For rising 2nd - 6th graders

Does your child have a book they are dying to read with their friends? Please let us know.

Otherwise we have hundreds of award winning titles to choose from. We pull many of our books from the Reader's Choice Award books and District 181 Battle of the Books list, curated by D181 librarians, teachers, and students.

High interest books are chosen to give students grade appropriate experiences in predicting, questioning, and inferring. We will take note of the author’s craft, including how the author uses imaging and writing choices, to make the story come alive for the reader. Throughout, we will discuss the big ideas of the story and how the author develops the theme. Word games will be incorporated with our book study!

For our younger ones, rising 2nd and 3rd graders, group sizes are limited to 6 students and will meet for 60 minutes.

For our older ones, rising 4th - 6th graders, group sizes are limited to 8 students and we will meet for 75 minutes.

Dates of meetings and

times will be flexible, determined by the group.

Perfectly Perilous Math!

We will combine all of the math operations to complete tricky math problems, build a city with geometric shapes, and practice math facts. For students exiting 3rd and 4th grade.

We all love a good mystery!

For students exiting 3rd and 4th grade. We will study famous mystery writers and not so famous writers. We will also explore REAL LIFE mysteries, like, why did the Titanic sink?

Math and Science ACT/SAT prep

We are offering a 6-week course aimed at covering the Math/Science sections of the ACT and SAT. We will meet for 2 one hour sessions every week. Students will learn about the structure of each test, how it is graded, timing strategy, and guessing strategy. We will take a timed pre-assessment so each student can learn their strengths and weaknesses. Based on this timed pre-assessment, students will work to improve their knowledge and confidence on content-specific ACT/SAT topics along with the test taking strategies that align with each assessment. The tutor for this course has been teaching high school math for over a decade and has taught ACT/SAT prep courses for CPS, Riverside Brookfield HS, and Huntington Learning Center.
